[GlitchHop] A brand new track from Ill Gates free to download
A fresh new track with an interesting video, and theres a story behind it...
Ill Gates:
Click here to download the MP3 & a special pack of artwork, poetry and music
Ill Gates:
This video came about both unexpectedly and fortuitously ... we had just cleaned up our rooftop when old friends iAmRurik and Creyote came by and just happened to feel like festooning every wall in our compound with their wild and amazing characters.
We decided to make a video for it using the thousands of photos we captured.
The song "My Special Place" seemed like a natural choice. My Special Place is a warm, personal and timeless song, the first to be premiered on ill.Gates' forthcoming album 'The ill.Methodology' (Muti Music, Spring 2011).
Please download and share "My Special Place" along with our special free pack of artwork, poetry and music.
Community Mural Project Proposal:
The city of Toronto is in the middle of a very ill-conceived crackdown on graffiti as our new mayor sees no distinction between murals and vandalism. We want to help change the public perception of street art in our city while strengthening our local community.
What we would like to do is get 5 floors of scaffolding and about 20 artists to paint a huge, highly visible wall in our community. We want to make a free event of it, having music and barbeque, and we want to invite members of the community to participate by setting up booths for both vending and networking on community issues such as the upcoming election.
We have all of the artists but we need art supplies and scaffolding.

[RnB] An interesting video from The Weeknd
The Weeknd - Glass Table Girls (off their new mixtape House of Baloons)
The Video is a scene taken from the first Robocop chopped up to flow with the songs rythm.
The lyrics are refering to a drink, "7 on 7" as in Seagrams 7 blended canadian whiskey and 7up.
The Weeknd is Abel Tesfaye, an RnB artist from Toronto, Canada. Abel started uploading songs to YouTube in 2010, and has sampled such artists as Beach House and Siouxsie and the Banshees. In March of 2011 he dropped his first mixtape, House Of Balloons. The vocals, sometimes sung and sometimes rapped, talk about ugly things in a pretty voice. Drake, the group’s citymate, toys with a similar aesthetic, but the Weeknd takes his ambivalent emotional tenor and stretches it out, building a whole worldview from it.

[Dubstep] Great new remix from a favourite artist
Blackmill started off producing music at the age of eight when he received his first musical instrument for his birthday: an acoustic guitar which he still plays to this day so look out for future tracks in this genre. At the age of 15 he started producing trance and uploading them to youtube under the alias "Robert J.C" As Dubstep grew throughout 2010 Blackmill took a shine to this new genre. Blackmill was quickly producing his own version of Dubstep, Melodic Dubstep. It's been proven to be a hit after he remixed Ellie Gouldings "Your Song" which took off straight away. Heres one of his latest remixs.

[Event] Andy C, voted #1 DnB DJ for 10 years in a row, showing up in Victoria
Andy C ~ Ram Records UK # 1 Drum and Bass dj in the world. Venue info and support acts will be announced soon. $ 30 Advance tickets will be available soon. Andy Clarke began experimenting with programming breaks as a teenager; he met Ant Miles at the studios where he was working through a family connection. They began working together in Ant's converted garage studio where Andy nurtured what was to become a sublime talent for chopping up and re-programming breaks. Andy then decided to set up his own label in early 1992 with a budget of £1000. RAM - so named due to Andy's star sign, Aries - launched with his solo debut and now-highly-collectable 'Sour Mash EP'. At the age of 15, together with Ant, Andy created magnum opus, 'Valley of the Shadows (31 Seconds)' under their Origin Unknown alias. Often referred to as the 'darkcore prototype', the track won Best Hardcore Tune at the 1993 Hardcore Dance Awards where Andy also collected the prize for Best Newcomer. By this time, his DJing career had begun to progress at a meteoric rate; he had a show on pirate station, Cyndicut FM and secured slots at key raves including Imagination, Club Elevation, Dreamscape, Innovation and Telepathy, where he became a resident. By 1994 together with Ant, he assumed another alias, Desired State, delivering masterpieces like 'Beyond Bass' and 'Here And Now'. In the same year, he began to branch out with collaborations, connecting with DJ Randall to create dancefloor smash, 'Sound Control'. Subsequent studio hook ups would involve Shimon and Moving Fusion. Origin Unknown's 1997 album, 'Origin Unknown Presents...Speed Of Sound' won Best Dance Album at the Kiss FM Dance Awards and Best Album at the Hardcore Dance Awards, where Andy also collected the gong for Best Producer. The 1998 follow-up, 'Origin Unknown Presents...Sound In Motion', preceded the birth of RAM Trilogy; Andy C, Ant Miles and Shimon's studio hook up. In the same year Andy managed to slot in his Wednesday night radio show on London's Kiss FM between global DJing commitments. In 1999 & 2000, he took the award for Best DJ at the Knowledge Awards. His numerous high profile remix accomplishments include Busta Rhymes 'Woo Hah!' (as Origin Unknown - which won Best Remix at the 1996 Muzik Magazine Awards), Adam F 'Circles', and Jay-Z 'Can't Knock The Hustle'. Andy also won the best D&B DJ award on Drum & Bass arena in 2001 & 2002 where in excess of 90,000 people voted, and again at Accelerated Culture's 'Peoples Choice Awards' in December 2002. Andy is also the highest ranking D&B DJ in the current DJ magazine Top 100 DJs placed at No. 28. |

[Hiphop] New album from this German duo
Ancient Astronauts recently released their latest album entitled Into Bass and Time. Now that they are back from SXSW; they have decided to drop the official video for their track “Worldwide”. A great laid-back Hip Hop jam here. You'll be missing out on something special if you don't giver' a listen.
[Hiphop] Some wicked Hip Hop beats with a classical touch from Gramatik
Gramatik - Orchestrated Incident (from the album "Street Bangerz Volume 2")
Good music is felt not heard. Gramatik apparently understood that at an age of 3 according to his mother as she used to catch him glued to the radio in his older sister's room whenever there was an old funk or rhythm & blues joint on, tapping his leg on the floor along with the beat. Damn, talking about a sign on what will your child do when he grows up!
Parents got him taking piano lessons in the elementary music school when he was in 2nd grade, but he dropped out 2 years later because he wasn't feeling that whole classical music thing as that was the only genre they were teaching. He later got some private piano lessons, learning the stuff he wanted to learn to play like Beatles and Rhythm & Blues in general. He and a few of his 4th grade classmates formed a band and became the youngest band in the history of his elementary school, playing school events on the regular. When he got to 7th grade he discovered Hip-Hop and felt totally overtaken and compelled by it's elements, especially by the power of the rhythmically accented poetry(RAP). He soon left the band, started writing and became an MC. His friends were amazed by his flow and delivery since there were no hip-hop artists in his home town Piran(Slovenia) at the time, except him and one of his classmates and they were dope on top of it! They formed a duo called Bow Down and threw the first hip-hop party in the history of their home town. In 1998, Gramatik met his first audio sequencing software on the computer of his classmate's older brother and felt like he got struck by lightening, totally overwhelmed by it! His parents were financially struggling at the time, so they couldn't afford a computer, so he was hanging out at his friend's house all the time, messing around with the sequencer when his older brother wasn't home. 2 years later his parents bought him a computer and the first thing he did was install that audio sequencer! He started producing his first beats and day by day felt more and more compelled by the craft & the magic of it. It wasn't long untill he discovered sampling which became his one true love in the music making process, chopping up all those old funk, soul, blues and jazz tracks he used to listen to all the time and making something completely new out of it was the best feeling ever. All of a sudden his life started to make perfect sense.
In 2006, he and 2 of his friends, fellow MC's, released their debut hip-hop album as a group called 5th Element, which was critically acclaimed throughout the country as one of the best hip-hop albums in Slovenia. After the album, Gramatik felt hip-hop just wasn't enough, that he was limiting himself with doing only one genre while he enjoyed listening to so many of them so he started producing House, Techno, Breakbeat, Electro, Drum'n'Bass, basically any genre that he liked which was anything that evolved from Blues, Jazz, Soul and Funk, as those ''father genres'' were all embedded deep in his style, whatever he would do. He realized that to him, music is much bigger than a genre name and their specific categorization, it's all about embracing what moves you and rejecting what doesn't. He released his first ever track on Beatport.com in june 2008, which was an Electro House track, a remix he did for DJ Vitamin D's track entitled Motherfuckers Know Whos The Best. The track ended up 24 on the Electro House Top 100 chart, a nice surprise and an excellent quality validation for this newcomer. Soon after that he ended up on 40 of the House Top 100 chart with his tribal banger Letz Get Ill while his Dreams About Her EP topped the Chil Out top 100 chart for 3 weeks. He kept releasing different stuff on various labels all owned by DJ Vitamin D which he became good friends with. Not long after his first release stroke the chart, Vitamin D suggests to him that he should scrap up those 20 hip-hop beatz he had sitting in a flash player on his myspace for over 2 years and release them as an album on the new Chill Out/Trip-Hop/Instrumental Hip-Hop label he's about to open inspired by those same beatz he was listening to. So Gramatik does that(thinking he won't sell more than 3 tracks off the album since they were just 2:30 minuets long hip-hop beatz, which are not commonly sold on beatport) and the album he entitled Street Bangerz Vol.1 get's released in december 2008 on the fresh new label Cold Busted. little did he know that the album was gonna catapult straight to the 1 spot on the Top 100 Chill Out chart and has been holding hostage the first 20 spots ever since. Street Bangerz Vol.1 has been a total success, completely unexpected, selling over 50.000 tracks world wide in less than 6 months on beatport alone. It made him realize that quite often, the things that you expect to work the least, usually work the most. Gramatik is now working on various projects while determined to keep up the SB series, dropping one a year, perfecting them volume after volume and hopefully tour the world in due time.

[Chill] New album on the way from this duo
Blue Sky Black Death an accomplished West Coast production duo has mastered the art of cooperation. Their music converts crude into refined through technical building stock that exceeds the boundaries of one specific musical genre. Young God and Kingston forms the duo and acquire additional people to help construct the synthesis of instrumental variety. Often a single track will mean a keyboard violin cello and guitar mixed with live vocals and abstract samples so each song to compile and manipulate to make the music engaging on several levels.
Blue Sky Black Death General Consulate songs draw a span of inspiration from 80's pop melodies to modern indie rock experimentation. Their latest acclaimed album 'Slow Burning Lights "matches BSBD the phenomenon of Yes Alexander her spine numbing vocals and somber lyrics blend perfectly among BSBDs quixotic rhythms BSBD has redefined hip-hop through his kaleidoscopic musical vision as a landscape, music as a dimension to design and build up and out his name Borrowed fromriver skydiving term beauty before death reflects their life and ability to bring back to life dead and forgotten dimensions.
Now, they are set to release their latest album, entitled NOIR, later this month and they have been recently giving out previews to the album. The track I’m bringing to you today is from that upcoming album and is called “Sleeping Children Are Flying”. It’s a very layered track that oddly evokes feelings of nostalgia that are hard to shake. Also included is a music video for the track “In The Quiet Absence Of God”. Check out the track and chill…

[Indie] Holy Ghost!'s new album out now
Holy Ghost! is a DJ duo from Brooklyn, NY formed by Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser of the now-defunct group Automato. They are currently signed to DFA and have released a 12 "single. They have also recently received a great promotion when their song "Hold On" was appointed to the iTunes Store Free Single of the Week in December 2007. In 2008 the boys remixed Moby's "I love to move in here", MGMT's "Of Moons Birds & Monsters", and Cut Copy's "Hearts on Fire". The two have also toured as members of the Juan MacLean and been involved in other remixes and recordings as part of the DFA family.

[electroHouse] New EP from Felix Cartal, "The joker"
I've never been so happy with so many bleeps in a song before. The production value on this new EP is superb. Another website describes the EP as such:
"Unleashing a true Armageddon-like beast in its powerful six minute and two seconds roar, ‘The Joker’ electrifies its electronica and bleepiness so dominantly, that the MI5 and the NSA would seriously have to ask this guy for some lessons in real brute force and about his uniquely owned “by any means necessary” action. With as much punch and jump as a Mexican jumpin’ bean, ‘The Joker’ sets up its counterpart quite nicely in side-stepping its competitors on the field and curling a wonderful shot into the back of The Riddler’s back net. A full energy uplift is laid out on the table for ‘The Riddler’ all the way!"Now although the whole EP itself is quite good, "The riddler" (the other song included) tickles my fancy in a way that the "The Joker" cannot.
Heres a preview of the EP.

[Dubstep] Heres a remix of Band of Horses "The Funeral" by Butch Clancy
Calmer than most of Butch Clancy's normal material, this remix shows off his talent in placement and takes a step back from in-your-face grimey Dubstep to highlight Band of Horses unique vocals and melodies. This "chillstep" remix portrays how relaxing the sub-genre can be offering a different version of the original for those with a taste for bass.
